Reviews
The overnight tour in Transylvania far exceeded our expectations. Alex, our guide and driver was without doubt, the best guide we have met in Eastern Europe. His knowledge is formidable, his patience is infinite and he is a great driver. We could not recommend the company and Alex more highly. Paul is very fortunate to have Alex as a team member.
A terrific tour of Transylvania! Our guide, Pavel, was very friendly, easy going, and professional. He struck the perfect balance between providing us with interesting historical background and stories without going into too many extraneous details. He was always happy to answer any of our questions. He drove us around the countryside expertly and played pleasant background music. Our first stops were the two castles of Peles and Bran. The coffee served at the cafe where Pavel recommended was top notch. Pavel gave us his honest opinion in advance and what to look for so our expectation were well callibrated. We thought Brasov was super, and had the best meal of the tour at the authentic Romanian restaurant that Pavel recommended. Sighisoara was the highlight of the tour. We spent the evening there in a really beautiful hotel in the old city walls. We went to an escape room just off the square and then had a traditional desert - papanas - which Pavel had recommended, it was a delight to the last morsel. On the second day we went to Brasov, which was also nice, and then proceeded on a brilliant drive over the mountains. Pavel was very happy to stop where we wanted to take photos of the breathtaking scenery. Coming down the mountains towards the huge dam, we had several sightings of cute brown bears, where Pavel stopped so we could take photos of. After the dam, we made a speedy return back to Bucharest, with enough time to settle back into our hotel and enjoy the evening. This tour was near perfect and was an incredible way to see a lot of Transylvania in a short time - highly recommended!!
Bogdan was great - very accommodating, informative, and kept us on track to complete a jam-packed itinerary including three towns, three castles, and a walled church fortress in two days. If you have a short time and want to see the Romanian countryside, do yourself a favor and let Bogdan do the driving.
This was our first visit to Romania and had wanted to spend more time in Transylvania rather than Bucharest to see some more of the history and culture of the country. We resisted the temptation of a long one day tour and booked this tour instead as we felt it would give us a better perspective (the tour company also does a 3 day tour which may be better if you have the time). We booked directly with the company and paid in advance. We received good communication prior to the trip both from the owner and our tour guide. We met Emanuel with his burgundy minibus outside the Hilton Garden Inn in the Old Town and within a few minutes we could tell that we would enjoy his company and knowledge. We were the only people on this particular tour so this gave us good access to Emanuel and gave us a little more flexibility on timings when we had some bad luck with heavy rain! We visited some great towns, palaces and churches over 2 full days and learnt so much. Highlights for me were the beautiful Peles Palace and the central areas of Brasov and Sibiu although everywhere was great. Emanuel gave us some good recommendations for lunch on both days and we enjoyed staying at the hotel in Sighisoara. Despite taking a more leisurely 2 days for the tour it is still 2 long days as you get back to Bucharest at 7pm (or later if you don’t have good luck with the traffic). Overall throughly recommended and Emanuel deserves a medal for 2 days of driving and commentary!
Excellent schedule, beautiful locales, good hotel, good suggestions from the guide. But a lot of the time he left us alone, which is why Good, not Excellent!
